The launch will be the fourth of its kind in the past 3 years and the third GPS rocket launch by SpaceX.
Just 2 seconds before SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket’s scheduled time to liftoff, the company scrubbed the launch for undisclosed reasons. The next attempt can be made from Cape Canaveral, Florida in USA on Saturday evening. The launch date and time are yet to be confirmed for the rocket which will carry an upgraded global positioning system (GPS) satellite for the US Space Force and modernize their GPS capabilities.
The launch will be the fourth of its kind in the past 3 years and the third GPS rocket launch by SpaceX. The payload for the Falcon 9 carries GPS III SV04, which will join orbit and become a part of 31 satellites that will replace the current fleet of GPS satellites. Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, these GPS III satellites are presumed to be thrice as effective and accurate as the older satellites along with advanced anti-jamming hardware to ward off cyber attacks by virtue of the new M-Code signal which is embedded in the satellite. The M-Code signal is unique for military satellites.
